--Interest-free overdraft:
They'll offer you a guaranteed interest free overdraft of at least £500 at account opening. This could increase to up to a maximum £3,000, subject to status and how you use your account. Plus, they won't charge you any overdraft arrangement fees.
Please note, applicants for overdrafts must be 18 or over.
--Student Bursary Competition:

--Credit interest:
During your first year, the first £1,000 in your Student Bank Account, will earn interest at 1.5% AER/gross above base rate, current 2% AER/gross variable (does not apply to their postgraduate Student Service.) Interest is calculated daily on the cleared credit balance and is paid monthly.
--AER (Annual Equivalent Rate): This is a notional rate which illustrates what the Gross rate would be if interest were paid and compounded each year.
--Gross: The rate before the deduction of tax applicable to interest on savings.

If you are returning to study, you can apply for an overdraft facility of up to £3,000 interest-free. They'll also guarantee you a minimum limit of at least £500 when you open your account.
To help you know where you stand, when you withdraw cash from an HSBC cashpoint you'll get an on-screen warning if you're nearing your overdraft limit.
